Fleet and business legislation is constantly changing. Our Good To Know section keeps you up to date and shows how Jaguar innovation cuts costs and reduces environmental impact.

Using your mobile phone whilst driving is now considered a serious crime in the UK. Which is why the police and UK Government have introduced serious penalties for guilty parties. If you’re caught using your phone behind the wheel you’ll incur an immediate £200 fine and six penalty points on your license. Offend more than once and you could face a £1000 fine and a 6-month driving ban.

Under existing legislation children must use a car seat until they are twelve years old or 135cm tall, whichever comes first. However, new rules affect the type of car seats that must be used for children. For example, manufacturers can no longer produce backless booster seats for children under 135cm tall.

    • What's P11D?
The P11D value of a car will generally be the manufacturer's list price for the car (and any options fitted) including VAT, number plates and delivery charges, excluding any options which cost less than £100 and which were fitted after the car was first made available to you.
    • Petrol or Diesel?
Whether you need a Petrol or a Diesel car depends very much on you as a driver. If you live in the city and use your car for short journeys, rarely venturing onto the motorway then petrol is better suited to you. Whereas if you regularly drive longer distances then a diesel engine makes more sense. However, it’s worth knowing that it’s rumoured that emission and congestion charge legislation may soon start to target diesel engines.
    • What's Benefit in Kind Tax?
A graduated system of tax was introduced in April 2002 that bases company car tax rates on CO2 emissions. A vehicle's CO2 emission level determines the percentage of the vehicle’s P11D value that can be taxed. This means that vehicles with lower CO2 emissions will incur a lower tax liability.
    • What's Jaguar Contract Hire?
We buy the Jaguar you choose and claim back the VAT – so your payments are calculated exclusive of VAT. Select your annual mileage and how many monthly rental payments (between 18 and 60) you prefer. Add optional service, maintenance and repair packages and your initial rental in advance and rental payment is calculated. At the end of the term, you return the vehicle to us and will have nothing further to pay provided the vehicle condition is in line with BVRLA guidelines and has not exceeded the agreed mileage. If the vehicle does not meet the mileage and condition terms excess charges will apply. Choose your next Jaguar and, subject to status, start again.
